Alpha access

Privacy notice

PianoScribe is a closed alpha run by one person. This notice says plainly what is stored, where it goes, and how to get rid of it.

Last updated: 13 September 2026

What we store

  • Your account. The email address, name and profile picture your sign-in provider (Google or Discord) gives us, plus the invitation seat you claimed.
  • What you upload. Sheet music, MIDI and audio files you send us, and everything generated from them – MusicXML, practice MIDI, your saved edits and each earlier version of them.
  • How you practise. Which sections you worked on, your timed run results, tempo and progress through each piece.
  • What you tell us. Feedback you send from inside the app, and any email you send us. If you rate a coach reply with thumbs up or down, we keep the rating and our reply, not your question.
  • Payment records. If you buy a plan, our payment provider holds the card details – we never see them. We store only which plan you have and its status.

Who else sees it

Your uploads are private. They are stored in a private bucket, served only through short-lived links tied to your account, and no other user can reach them. We do not sell anything and we do not share your files with anyone unless you explicitly choose to share them.

We rely on a small number of services to run at all:

  • Google or Discord, to sign you in.
  • A hosting provider and a file-storage provider, to run the site and hold your files.
  • Lemon Squeezy, to take payments.
  • Sentry, to receive crash reports. Session replay and PostHog capture are disabled.

If you play with MIDI or a microphone

Practice input is processed in your browser. We store the result of a run – hits, misses and timing – not a recording of your playing. Microphone audio is never uploaded or kept, and we do not transcribe it on our servers.

Optional contributions for future models

Upload permission is not training permission. From a score page, adults can separately offer that score and future corrections, future practice-result summaries for that piece, or both. These purposes are unchecked by default. We record the consent wording version, date, chosen purposes, rights explanation and score checksum. Score contributions also retain an exact starting score so later corrections can be compared. Practice records bind results to a score version and section. Microphone audio, camera video, private chats and teacher messages are excluded from this contribution path.

Contributions stay pending rights and privacy review. No training or dataset export is currently enabled. Permission to upload, a public-domain composition, or a dataset licence alone does not establish rights in a score edition. Training use requires separate clearance, removal of identifying content and a documented data-retention and withdrawal process before it is enabled.

Withdraw on the score page or in Settings at any time. This stops future use of the contributed records and removes the contribution-only starting-score copy and rights explanation. Your ordinary private score and practice history remain for your use. A minimal consent/withdrawal record remains with your account. Deleting the piece or account deletes its contribution record. Withdrawal cannot guarantee reversal of any already completed training; no such training is taking place now. We will explain changes before enabling it.

How long we keep it

For as long as your account exists. We have not yet built automatic expiry for old uploads, so assume a file stays until you ask us to remove it. When you ask us to delete your account, we remove your account, your uploads, your generated scores and your practice history.

Your choices

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete all of it. Email contact@pianoscribe.com and we will act within a month. There is no self-service delete button yet; a request by email is handled by hand. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office if you think we have handled your data badly.

Legal basis

We process your account and uploads to provide the service you asked for. Crash reports and usage counts rest on our legitimate interest in keeping the product working; tell us if you object and we will exclude you.

Changes

This is an alpha and the product changes often. If this notice changes in a way that matters, we will tell invited testers by email.
